The eExpert Tepee is the only full-size electric people carrier on the market and in common with the Peugeot MPV on which it is based, it boasts effortless handling, fantastic space and highly-advanced safety equipment.
Allied Electric remove the diesel engine from a standard Peugeot Tepee and replace it with a powerful electric motor and lithium-ion batteries designed to perform over 1,000 full charging cycles. Recharging is via an on-board, plug-in charger.
Driving the eTepee: Aside from the lack of engine noise, the eTepee feels almost indistinguishable from a diesel-powered vehicle of a comparable size and the top speed of 70mph and range of 100 miles make it a practical, too.
The eTepee is fitted with regenerative braking, which means that the energy that would otherwise have been lost during braking is used to power a generator to supplement the battery. The effect of the regenerative braking on the Tepee is no more aggresive than the engine braking from a good automatic gearbox.
Verdict: This full-size MPV is a supremely accomplished, if pricey, electric vehicle.
